About Us

It all started with one child and one mother searching for a Social Skills Program and a place to reach other parents on the same journey. Little help was available so she approached the Advertiser Sunday Mail Foundation and with their generous support eight boys aged from 8-10 years were able to take part in a very successful pilot Social Skills Program. That was in back in 2008.

During the course of that year all the mothers of the children that participated in this program recognised the urgent need for a Centre to support children with Asperger Syndrome and their families. While their children attended this Pilot Social Skills program every Tuesday afternoon, these mothers shared their dreams and aspirations over cups of coffee nearby in the Dulwich Café.

From these very humble beginnings jotted down on a paper napkin in the café, to a Foundation which is now reaching hundreds of children with Asperger Syndrome, this core group of Mothers have realised their dreams and launched what is now The Gold Foundation Centre in Belair.

They aspire to expand these programs and reach even more children. With the support of their major sponsors, they have established a well-resourced centre. Today the Gold Foundation has expanded to include; on- going Social Skills Programs; Formal Graduation Ceremonies for all children attending programs; Social Buzz Program (for graduates); excursions; Parent Support Sessions; Parent / Sibling Seminars; Open Days for all children and families; Special Themed Events and a fully resourced Centre for children with Asperger Syndrome.

To think it all started with one child and one mother who was determined to change his world. Little did she realise that she was not alone and so began the journey to improve the lives of children with Asperger Syndrome and in doing so has opened the door to hundreds of families on a similar path. That is as good as Gold.
